Join the Asset Management Team

The Asset Management Bureau (AMB) of the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is seeking to hire a savvy and experienced Geographic Information Systems (GIS) professional to join our Data Management Team.

The Team

The goal of Asset Management is to help VTrans identify the right treatment on the right asset at the right time.

The Data Management section aims to bring highway asset data to decision makers to enhance their processes. We support a wide range of business units with database management, reporting, analytics, data collection, systems integrations, web mapping, and visualization.

The Role

We're seeking someone with strong GIS, web mapping, and data science skills to help make our transportation data more actionable.

Our team is also responsible for mobile data collection, automation and quality control, analysis, database management, systems integrations, and visualization. We like to position ourselves at the cutting edge of transportation research and are actively exploring projects involving artificial intelligence and RFID technology.

This is a great opportunity to work with a talented, dynamic team to develop unique solutions within a broad range of projects and initiatives. If this sounds like something you’re interested in, please be in touch because we’d love to have you in to talk about what passion you can bring to help make us better at what we do. VTrans has great opportunities for career growth and offers an excellent work/life balance.

  • Transforming data into information into knowledge into action!
  • Whatever else you bring to the table to take us up a notch or two (or three or four…)

The Skills

Web GIS & Frontend

Experience with web mapping libraries, such as Esri’s Javascript API, Leaflet or Mapbox, and comfort with web technologies (e.g. JavaScript, HTML, CSS), especially working with REST endpoints and APIs to query and present data. Publishing web GIS services and administering web mapping are also fundamental components of what we’d like you to do.

Scripting & Automation

You’ve immersed yourself in languages such as python and node.js, and understand how to leverage these utilities to keep data clean, swift, and organized. Experience using version control frameworks such as Git and Azure DevOps is a plus.

Data & Outputs

You are adept at navigating data landscapes, feel comfortable finding what you need, and are keen on assessing quality. Your familiarity with statistics and experience with visualization tools such as Microsoft PowerBI can help transform our data into accurate and valuable information for the folks who need it.

Design

A good eye for design and an understanding of user experience principles. You delight in the details. You enjoy spending the extra time to make the experience magical and continuously strive to raise the bar.

Database Integrations

Comfort and experience working in and designing enterprise data. You have a good sense of how to integrate data, and understand the importance of standardizing data for use across various systems.

Mobile Data Collection

Familiar with various mobile data collection practices including GIS solutions such as Esri Collector and Survey 123, and Trimble GNSS.
